On the world of Hyperion, the legendary Time Tombs have been sought after and investigated by many different individuals. The galaxy is at war and factions are fighting for resources in the farthest corners. This is one of the best Sci-fi books I have ever read and worthy of both the Hugo award and as a staple of the genre. Dan Simmons also does something very unique in the way the story is told and I will go into more detail in my review. Dan Simmons wrote Hyperion with such beauty and imagination that you can’t help but be swept away. Hyperion is a classic Sci-fi novel set hundreds of years in the future. It wasn’t until a close friend told me about the amazing experience he had reading Hyperion and how it would be just the read I was looking for did I decide to do a deep dive. I was told to start with the classics of Dune, Foundation, and the Book of the New Sun. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to the massive expanse that is the Sci-fi genre. And one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands. Each carries a desperate hope-and a terrible secret. On the eve of Armageddon, with the entire galaxy at war, seven pilgrims set forth on a final voyage to Hyperion seeking the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. On the world called Hyperion, beyond the reach of galactic law, waits a creature called the Shrike.

And then he and his boyfriend almost drowned and after all was well, I kept thinking about what would’ve happened if he had died. I swore I was going to end up with this guy, but then he fell in love with someone else. My inspiration came from a breakup for a relationship that ended because of distance, not falling out of love. Here’s our Q&A with Adam Silvera!īetter Reading: Congratulations on your new book, History Is All You Left Me! This is such a stunningly heartbreaking book, though there are moments of redemption and love. Adam Silvera packs a punch into his book, and it will leave you reeling and emotional. There is also discussion of love, coming out, and dealing with anxiety. He remembers the good and bad times, and deals with moving through the grief and coming out the other side. It follows Griffin through the history and the present, as he deals with the sudden accidental death of his best friend and ex-boyfriend, Theo. Adam Silvera’s new book, History Is All You Left Me, is a beautiful meditation for teenagers on love, loss, and friendship. But the competition on Earth to develop the aliens as a new weapons system is brutal. Now the government has tapped Wilks to lead an expedition to the aliens' home planet to bring back a live alien. Thirteen years later Wilks is in prison, and Billie lives in a mental institution, the nightmare memories of the massacre at Rim seared into her mind.
